A to Z Challenge Theme Reveal

Happy Monday!

Last year, I decided that I was going to begin deciding May 2014 if I was going to participate in the A to Z Challenge in 2015. So, this February, I decided that yes, I would, and I was going to schedule my posts so that I wouldn't struggle the way I did in 2013. I will be posting this year in my April Dailies, and might even have a chance to still post on some of my normally scheduled days here, but I won't hold anyone to reading over here. Now I will have a chance to actually go around and read other people's posts and themes!

Speaking of themes, this is a BLOGFEST! Hence the logo sitting up there. I juggled a few in my head. Favorite songs, favorite books, favorite musical artists, but you know what, I'm going basic this year, and I'm providing a special list this year, a list that will get your creative juices flowing in the simplest way.

Wait for it.

Okay that's enough. My theme for the 2015 A to Z Challenge is

I know it's kind of weird, but it's something we as writers use often and without thinking about it until we want to say something other than "His eyes were blue" or "Her hair is bright red." So I'm providing some of my favorite color alternatives for you all!

Good luck this year. I can't wait to see what everyone else is doing.

(There's still time to do this, if you're mad! Here is the sign-up list for the A to Z Challenge: http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/p/a-to-z-challenge-sign-uplist-2015.html)

Spooktoberfest 2014 Genesis's "Home By The Sea"

Hello! Happy Saturday!

I decided to do the Cover Girls' Spooktoberfest this year! We have to create a 300-word flash fiction and use the five words below. If I did it right, you will also see the LinkyTool for the other participants, and for you to join if you want! There is still time! The winner will be revealed on Halloween (insert creepy ghost noise).
chill
cocoon
commotion
curse
virus

A lone tree hung over the beach house, one big cocoon of spider webs instead of leaves. I hesitated, but winter was unofficially here, and I could bear the chill no longer.

The front door had no knob and swung open when I knocked. I stepped inside and called out. No one answered. The rising sun ate away at the darkness like a heavenly virus, and I only realized I was nervous once my muscles relaxed. The house was coated and stale with dust. I walked further inside, entered a parlor with mildewed furniture: a sofa, two chairs, a coffee table. On one wall, a bar with six stools, a piano on the other. I imagined high society drinking here and chatting about the stocks, and at the thought, such a commotion arose that I whipped around.

Tens of people stood behind me and in the corridor, talking and drinking. The sun’s rays revealed decayed flesh and tattered garments I only saw when I wasn’t directly looking at them. That alone should have paralyzed me, but their shadows on the wall, clawing and crying for a way out while their oblivious bodies laughed and carried on did the trick best. They turned to look at me with pale, dead eyes, and I knew there was a curse on this place.

“Welcome to the home by the sea.”

I turned again. Three ladies on the sofa, men in the chairs and on the stools looked back at me. A woman at the piano played a tune I’d never heard but would hear again. It was the bartender who had spoken to me. In the mirror, his shadow screamed at me to run away.

They all said to me in one dreadful moan, “Sit down. Listen to our stories.”

Friday Freeday: Oh, How I Miss You

Happy Friday! OH, HAPPY FRIDAY!

Today begins a special blogfest. Whose blogs would you miss if you were gone, and who used to blog that you miss? Name 1 to 3 of each.

I haven't been reading blogs that long, so I don't have anyone who I miss yet. So I might cheat a little bit.

I would definitely miss SC Author and his blue self. lol He talks about J.K. Rowling a lot, but that's the title of his blog. He has very inspirational and thought-provoking posts.

This is kind of a cheat, but these two ladies are two sides of the same coin, and they are my Express Yourself ladies, Dani & Jackie. They're best friends and bloggers, so they come up with fun things for us to do each week while sharing personal parts of their lives with us. My weeks would not be the same without them.

I feel like a lot of people will say Alex, lol, so I'm going to go with another great lady, and that's Cassie Mae! She's hilarious, and I love to see what she's up to. I would definitely miss her!

Thanks for stopping by, and a big thanks to our hosts for this blogfest! See you around the blogosphere. ;)

Friday Freeday: 1 Week until the Oh, How I Miss You Blogfest!

Happy November! Today I thought I would promote a blogfest that begins NEXT Friday, and that is the 2nd Annual Oh, How I Miss You Blogfest.

This blogfest is hosted by Andrew Leon, Alex J. Cavanaugh, and Matthew MacNish. Here is the tagline: The bloggers we really miss…and the ones we would really miss! Do you have a couple blogger buddies who aren’t posting as often? Those who’ve pulled back and seem absent from the blogging world? Do you have blogger buddies you are grateful they are still around and would miss if they vanished? Now is your chance to show your appreciation and spotlight them! On November 8, list one to three bloggers you really miss and one to three bloggers you would miss if they stopped blogging. Then go leave a comment on those blogs.

Here is a link to where you can sign up.

Enjoy, and happy November!
